The official story goes that he died of some disease and that Queen Alexandra never got over it, but i’m not sure that this is the case.
I have two THEORIES on this.
1) The Cleveland Street scandal was enough to ensure that he could never take the throne. It would be inconcievable in the early 19th century for a Monarch (with the developing tabloid press around) to sit with his wife on the throne when the world knew that he was probably gay or bisexual. It would have made the Royal Family for gossip and it would also have been inconcievable for someone who engaged in sexual relations to be the supreme governor of the Church of England.
2) If the above is not a plausible argument. I think someone killed him and he was pronounced dead of natural causes. I’m not suggesting it was his Family. I’m suggesting it was some outside job like the developing MI5 (or whatever it was called then). Think about the way they declared that Queen Mary died of "gastric fever" when she actually died of cancer, and the way Lord Dawson of Penn euthanised King George V. What’s to say the Duke of Clarence’s death was as the official version suggested?
